MIG Welding Problem Identification

As a beginning MIG welder, we all run into problems.  Some are settings on the machine, some are operator error.  I feel that if you can identify problem welds by looking at them, you could then identify ways to solve these problems for yourself in the future.  These “flash cards” also have the answer on the back of them.

Voltage set too low.

Moving too fast over the material. Go slower! This is our number 1 issue for beginning welders.

Too sporadic.

Inductance too low

Moving too slow.

A good weld.

Gas was not turned on or gas tank is empty.

This is not all of the problems you could have, but these are the easiest to identify problems by studying your weld.
